Artisan tuition

Alternative Process Photographic Printing

Tuition Overview

Today’s photography has become far too obsessed with the mass creation of shiny digital images, most of which will never exist in a physical form, just an anonymous digital file on an anonymous storage device.

Creating handmade prints using chemicals, art papers and sunlight is a wonderful way to connect with a more tactile method of artistic printmaking.

You will be able to use a variety of capture formats including digital, mobile and more importantly analogue film cameras. Using a film camera is the best way to make every press of the shutter count

Our final images will be made in the darkroom using alternative processes such as Cyanotype and Van Dyke, processes that can be done with easily available and low cost materials.

Here you will discover the more popular processes available and experience creating handmade prints from your own original images.

Weekend Masterclass

Spend 2 days in a small group to go deeper into both image capture and creating hand made prints with a variety of fine art subjects.

These sessions can include a demonstration of the wet plate collodion and film photography processes if required.

Workshops Format

A demonstration to appreciate the processes can be done online which is good as an introduction, however to get true benefit from these workshops we really need to be working together in the studio where you will be hands on to produce your own prints.

Please get in touch to see how you can start learning a new skill today to suite your timescale and budget.
